Hypnotherapy

How Long Does It Take?

Hypnotherapy generally requires several sessions in order to achieve meaningful results, depending on the readiness of patients to be hypnotised. However the patient can learn the technique of self-hypnosis which can then be practiced alone.

The important thing is that the patient wants to change some behavioral habit or addiction and is highly motivated to do so.

Finding The Right One

We would advise you to always telephone a hypnotherapist and have a thorough chat before making an appointment.  Make a list of questions and check that you are happy with the answers before booking an appointment.

Always check a therapist's qualifications and affiliations with professional organisations.

How It Works

Hypnotherapy usually involves the patient experiencing a sense of deep relaxation and their attention narrowed down to focus on appropriate suggestions made by the therapist.

These suggestions help people make positive changes within themselves. During the session you are always in control and you are not made to do anything you wouldn't want to.

It is generally accepted that all hypnosis is ultimately self-hypnosis.  A hypnotist merely helps you to facilitate your experience.

Hypnotism does not involve the patient being put into a deep sleep, and the patient cannot be made to do anything they would not ordinarily do.   They remain fully aware of their surroundings and situation, and are not vulnerable to the commands of the therapist.
