How does ‘nutrition’ work?
Simply put, Nutritional Healing is giving your body the right nutrients that it needs in order to achieve optimum levels of physical, mental and emotional health, and promote longevity and the absence of ill health. It works with nature's ability to heal the body, and aids this healing process.
Nutritional practitioners have been educated and trained to understand the science of food and the body’s systems, and they are able to teach people how to make changes to their diet, which will have a beneficial effect and improve their quality of life.
Practitioners can help with many health issues such as chronic fatigue, digestive problems (such as IBS), cardiovascular disease, food allergies, stress, mental health, hormonal issues and inflammatory conditions such as arthritis. They can also deal with areas such as weight loss, child, sports and pre-conceptual nutrition.

How do I choose a practitioner?
Nutri People practitioners are all fully trained and are members of the regulatory body associated with their particular profession. |
They are dieticians, nutritional therapists, or nutritionists. All three types of practitioner work with food and the body with the aim of reaching and maintaining good health, and our members are all working in private practice on a one-to-one basis. Historically, dietitians have worked within the NHS in hospitals and attached to GP surgeries. Nutritionists have performed a more scientific role, working in laboratories, and with food manufacturers or health departments. Nutritional therapists were once thought of as alternative practitioners, with little scientific training.
However, things have changed enormously throughout the nutrition industry, and now all three types work with clients in private practice using diet and lifestyle changes to improve a client’s quality of life. |
Whether you see a nutritional therapist, a nutritionist, or a dietitian will ultimately be down to personal choice, and will depend on your own personal feeling toward the individual concerned. But with a Nutri People practitioner, you can always be assured of the professionalism and safety of all of our practitioners.
What happens at a consultation?
Some practitioners will ask you to fill out a questionnaire before your visit; others will spend considerable time asking you questions during the consultation, many will do both. This is vital for them to gain a picture of your current state of health, your history, your diet, lifestyle and levels of exercise. Nutritional practitioners understand the principle of biochemical individuality – that is that we are all different, and so we all need a nutritional program tailored specifically to our own individual needs.
The information that you provide will enable the practitioner to put together a program of dietary changes, lifestyle advice, and if necessary, recommended supplements for you to take. It may only be necessary to have one consultation, although for many people, at least one follow-up visit, to check progress and adjust the program, may be required.
This means that every Nutri People practitioner has reached the required level of training and education, and adheres to a strict Code of Ethics and Statement of Professional Conduct. Our dietitians are all current members of the British Dietetic Association, our nutritionists of The Nutrition Society, and our nutritional therapists are all members of the British Association for Nutritional Therapy.
