Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Organisations To Look Out For

British Association Of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS)
British Association Of Plastic Surgeons (BAPS)

Only surgeons who appear on the specialist GMC Register can join these organisations and use the letters after their name.

Cosmetic surgery can improve your looks and help to boost your self-confidence

The Initial Consultation

At this stage expect the surgeon to ask you questions about your motivation for the surgery and what you expect to get out of it. You should be sown before and after pictures of similar surgery the surgeon has carried out.

Risk

Any risk should be explained to you now along with any possible side affects. You also make sure you get a realistic recovery time as you may have to take time away from work!

Make sure your consultation is with the surgeon and NOT with a sales person!

Growing Popularity

With the growing popularity of cosmetic surgery in recent years you could be forgiven for thinking that it is as straightforward as arranging a day at a health farm.

Cosmetic surgery can improve your looks and help to boost your self-confidence. What it wont do, is to provide you with a new personality or bring instant happiness.

Before you proceed, take some time to think through what you want to achieve, and why. Consider all the options and make sure that you are doing it for the right reasons.

Talk To Your GP

Whilst you don't need to be referred by your GP it is a good idea to speak the them first and their medical opinion. They may have experience with what you are considering and may be able to refer you to the right surgeon.

Surgeons Register (GMC)

You may be surprised that almost any doctor can call themselves a cosmetic surgeon. Only those who have completed 6 years of specialist training and have obtained further qualifications (FRCS Plast) are added to the specialist register in the plastic surgery section. You will need their full name to check this.
